Early life and career

In north Gujarat, India, Karsanbhai Patel was born in 1975 into a farming family. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the age of 25, and he began working as a lab technician. He began by working at Ahmedabad's New Cotton Mills. Later, in the State Government's Geology and Mining Department. Karsanbhai made the independent decision to launch a detergent company.

He was the sole manager of his business. His business was a complete success as soon as he set the pricing per kg at merely 3 rupees. He soon gave the business the name Nirma in honor of his daughter. He worked on all of this in addition to his regular employment. After three years, Karsanbhai finally decided to resign from his position and devote all of his time to his business. He opened his own detergent store in a suburb of Ahmedabad.

Success of Nirma

Nirma quickly gained recognition and established itself as a trusted brand in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The company's quick success was due to the detergent's low cost and great quality. At that time, global businesses with pricey products dominated the detergent and soap sector. Within a decade, Nirma overtook other detergents as the most popular one in India. Around 14,000 individuals were employed by Nirma in 2004, making it a major employer.

Karsanbhai Patel founded Ahmedabad's Nirma Institute of Technology in 1995. It developed into Gujarat's top engineering school.
