BTVI (Business
Television India) was formerly called Bloomberg TV India, Bloomberg UTV, and
UTVi. It was founded by Anil Ambani in April 2008. It was a 24-hour news
channel that covered the business economy genre. It was run by BNPL (Business
Broadcast News Pvt. Ltd). News on Industry, Business, Stocks, Economy, Markets,
Telecom, Personal Finance, and Technology was broadcasted by BTVI.
Details:
BTVI was mainly
popular for its news coverage of various genres of news reporting. The best
part was that it delivered news 24-hour. But, due to uncertain circumstances,
it failed in its motive. It happened mostly because of the owners' poor
decisions and hectic moves.
The reasons behind
BTVI’s failure are described below:
- Poor decisions
- Financial crisis for several months
- Lack of knowledge about the market
- Negligence among the service providers
- Unable to raise funds
- Poor decisions from the promoters
- Poor financial management
- Little efforts to bring out the best
- Cost of lost opportunity
- Poor marketing strategy
- Poor situation handling
- Undisputed leadership
BTVI was an English
news channel that ruled the world of news by providing the most exclusive news
before any other channels. But BTVI encountered a massive downfall all of a
sudden. On 1st August 2016, after a settlement between Bloomberg LP and Business
Broadcast News, it was decided that they will not be going to renew their seven
years old licensing contracts. Then the channel was renamed BTVI from Bloomberg
TV India. Later several other news companies came into the scenery, and BTVI
failed to catch up.
More and more people
were migrating to other news channels. BTVI went into a dormant state and
failed to wake up to changing the dynamics of the market until it was too late.
On and from 31st August 2019, BTVI suspended the broadcast without mentioning any
prominent reasons.
The management tried a
lot to rescue the situation, but all the efforts were in vain. BTV was also
having talks with a South Indian Businessman for raising funds but eventually
failed to seal the deal because of factors like liabilities. And the promotes
decided to shut down the operations of the channel.
BTVI was going through
a huge financial crisis for several months. And the company did not want to
increase the financial burden. Even as per a report, the salary of the
employees was not credited in the last month.
Expected Solutions:
BTVI news channel was
overall successful but mostly failed because of poor financial management,
improper planning, and hectic moves. For solving the problems, BTVI could have
hired a better management and service providers' team.
The promoters could
have sealed the deal with the South India-based businessman for keeping the
financial balance of the company intact. It should have opted for alternative
planning, or a plan B was necessary to keep the company alive.
Conclusion:
The BTVI news channel
was started about 13 years ago. It started its journey to serve the best news
to the people of its country. But, due to poor decisions and unfortunate
circumstances, it collapsed. The financial crunches it went through were
unbearable for it, and it did not want to drag the financial burden, and thus
decided to go for the permanent shutdown. The end of the company was inevitable
because it was unable to pay even the rents.
Key learning:
BTVI was successful at
the beginning. But, due to improper planning and poor strategies,
their plan eventually failed. So, it is very important to understand the market
demand and current situations. Instead of changing the career plan, one must
look at their competitors and learn from their methods of operating. Stay
focused, have robust planning, create an efficient team, and shape your ideas
into reality.
