What is Mintzberg Model?
- Other (Business & Information)
We are living in an upgraded world, and it is
still evolving. Several organizations are being introduced in the market with
each passing day. New theories and trends are coming into existence. All these
together are marking the rise of competitions.
It has become more important than ever to cope with the latest trends and utilize them to get the best outputs. Henry
Mintzberg formulated a model for all the organizations to maintain a perfect
structure and flow so that companies can attain their business objectives
seamlessly.
Mintzberg’s model of organizational structure:
Henry Mintzberg, a management expert, said
that traditional organizations could be divided into five parts. For example,
Amazon, the biggest tech company, follows the Mintzberg model for achieving the
company goals.
The factors that influenced the organizational
structure are- industry size, norms, external forces, and cultures. The
components that were identified by Mintzberg prove to be useful to understand
organizations' workflow.
Static Apex:
The topmost senior level in the organization
is known as the static apex. At this level, the management workers are called
the Directors' board. It includes the CEO, chairman, non-executive directors,
and executes. They are responsible for setting an organization's strategic
direction and objectives and contribute to financing and investing decisions.
Middle line:
The strategies and objectives of the strategic
level management is interpreted by middle line managers and convert into
feasible standards and plans for getting the work completed through the
operational managers. They set budgets, get reports from the management
accountants, keeps an eye on performance, and takes necessary corrective
actions. They are responsible for synchronizing individuals' works so that all
the departments work in a particular direction for meeting the organizational
needs.
Operational core:
The operational core manager is referred to as
the operational manager. They are involved in the regular operations of an organization.
They perform under the guidance of the senior managers and achieves
organizational goals. These managers are responsible for the organization
result's efficiency and quality and also deals with the external stakeholders.
In deciding budgets and strategic directions, the operational core managers
provide vital information.
Technostructure:
Technostructure includes the managers and
employees. But here, they do not involve in any core or revenue-generating
activities. The employees assist the managers at every level. They perform it
efficiently and effectively and report if there is a need for any corrective
actions for achieving the performance objectives and targets. The functional or
activity department that is prioritized under technostructure relies on the
industry.
Support staff:
A support staff’s absence does not directly
affect the organization’s performance. The organizations invest in supporting
activities because they are responsible for providing good working facilities
and environment to the core employees for preventing downtime. Under support
staff, departments like maintenance, cleaning, and canteen comes.
Conclusion:
It is already high time as the competitions
are rising with each passing day. Try to implement the Mintzberg model to cope
up with the latest organizational trends. The benefits are huge, but you will
need to craft a solid plan and execute them accordingly. You might need to
collaborate with your employees as well for preparing the plan.
"Management is, above all, a practice
where art, science, and craft meet."- Henry Mintzberg.
